Using the UCA Library I was able to expand my options for this project on Altered State. I used physical books found in the Library and digital materials to give myself ideas of themes that I wanted and what subject I should base my work around.
In this book "Beauty In Decay" by Urbex I found the imagery very eerie yet enticing. I really liked the use of wide, open spaces which create a sense of a void in the centre of the frame. This is particularly evident in the second image. Furthermore the use of the long shutter speed creates a spiritual/ghostly effect in the last image caught my interest due to its striking visuals.
Another book with an unusual concept is "Night Visions" by Joseph Scheer. While I have no interest in moths I found the colours of each insect to be very powerful. Looking at this book made me think about exploring the theme of nature and its colours.
When looking on the internet I was able to find a vast amount of influences for my work. Concepts that interested me was 'exploring reality' and 'living in the moment'. I got these ideas from just looking at natural phenomena such as the day/night cycle, the Northern lights and wildlife.
