With this project being based around the idea of Altered States I have had many ideas of routes I could go down to base my work around. I really do like the theme of exploring reality/living in the moment and I think there is a wide variety of work that I can create to convey these themes.
As evident in the Photography workshop I have processed Altered States to be related to how your surroundings are perceived. Films such as The Matrix and Interstellar have some amazing visuals that link perfectly with the ideas I have. Which is why I am going to research them in more detail to learn the context behind them.
An artist that have drawn a keen interest for is Rob Gonsalves as his paintings magical realism produce the same impact that I would like in my work. Rob Gonsalves was a Canadian painter who loved to explore the magic of life. As a romantic with a strong appreciation for the little things, he recognized beauty in shadows and light.
Rob was drawn to surrealism, but he felt the subject matter was too morbid. He tried his own uplifting form of surrealism, but he didn't find true inspiration until he saw Rene Magritte's art. Rob had found his niche in the art world when he painted something engaging and vibrant.
His work seems to defy the normal laws of nature to create something that is truly breath-taking. I would love to produce the same visual impression that his painting's have on me; in my work. These are some of my favourite pieces by him.
