Photographer Research - Ola Kolehmainen

Ola Kolehmainen is a Finnish Photographer who specialises in Abstraction Photography of architecture. He was born in Helsinki in 1964, and went on to graduate from the University of Industrial Arts in 1999. Kolehmainen's art, best known for his colourised prints, he explores the impact of light on architecture. His photos are often purposefully confusing, abstract blocks of colour or fragmented geometries that mimic mid-century Colour Field art. His work is often influenced by the work of concept artists such as James Turrell, Dan Flavin, and Donald Judd.

His abstract visuals of modern and historic architecture convey many emotions and link to the theme of a warped reality. Kolehmainen likes to use large-format images of architectures so that he can get the maximum amount of detail in all of his shots. Furthermore he likes to shot architecture in a way so that it can't be distinguished; which is a part of his unique photography style.

Kolehmainen's photos have had a considerable influence on my photography throughout the Altered States Project as I have also tried to convey a distorted reality aesthetic in my work.
