Ink Blot pieces that represent Altered States

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

Ink Blots are a great way to express altered states as they allow abstract shapes to represent inanimate or real objects. I used pots of ink to add spots around the page and then I folded the page in half to produce the smudged/duplicate effect.

The first one I completed was heavily inspired by the end credit visuals seen in Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. I am very pleased with how the mixture of crimson and sepia inks create a blood splattered effect while at the same time looking like an interpretation of the carnage symbiote.

This piece was done by putting red pools of ink in the centre and smudging blue ink in a circular pattern. When I closed the two halves of the page I managed to visualise the look of a temple surrounding a rose.

My final Ink Blot piece was made by trailing red ink out from the centre and guiding the blue in down. By looking at this closely I see some sort of alien machine that is made using both mechanical and organic materials.
