Linking to my contextual research throughout the memento project I decided to 3D model the four totems as seen in Christopher Nolan's Inception in Fusion 360. the concept itself of a memento is very broad and so I decided to go down the path of an artefact that triggers a memory. With my great interest in films I was able to link this concept clearly to Inception. The totems are a crucial part to plot of the movie and while they look like every-day object's they possess the power to determine reality. With there own unique traits they allow the owner to tell whether they are in the real world or a fabricated dream world.
The four totems seen in the film consist of a spinning top, a chess bishop, two dice and two poker chips. While in the dream world the spinning top spins continuously, the bishop has a drastic change in weight, one die will have the same number on the top as the other one and the poker chips will multiply when rubbed together.
The first totem I made was the spinning top which involved revolving a sketch I made using the fit point spline tool. Once I had created the body I went and filleted the edges to give it a smooth finish.

With the spinning top completed I made the dice by filleting a cube with a setback edge and sketching each side with the correct number of dots. To make sure the dots on each side were centered I used the rectangular pattern tool to create a grid of circles.

To make the bishop I used a similar method to the spinning top where I revolved a 2D sketch of the object's geometry. To make the cut through the spherical top of the bishop I extruded a rectangle through it and set the function to cut.

The final totem I modelled was the two poker chips. I individually sketched each card suit and then extruded them slightly further than the main body of the chip so that they were visible.

This video showcases the complete timeline of all of the totems.
As an extra render environment I created this room with a table to place the totems on and a window looking out onto the warped building landscape seen in Inception.

Below are the renders I made for these models, concluding the memento project.
