Using the knowledge and skills I had learnt from my 'DNA Mutation' animation I decided to try and create a hyperspace sequence. In the Star Wars franchise a Starship with a hyperdrive can enter lightspeed. When this happens the view of space in the cockpit becomes stretched and distorted as the ship moves across a galaxy at the speed of light.
To begin I created a cylinder mesh, extruded it along the y axis and removed the end faces. I then stretched a UV sphere which I could later apply the emission modifier.
The distorted stars were made by creating a particle system and linking the UV sphere to the cylinder. To do this I added a hair modifier and changed the length and size of each strand.
To make the effect look more natural I increased the scale randomness to the maximum. With the blue emission modifier added the tunnel started to come along.
So that the animation of flying through space I duplicated the tunnel to make it longer. I spent a lot of time to fix a problem I was having with the animation not being a seamless loop. After a lot of trial and error I managed to get the animation to loop by playing around with the keyframes and the distance the camera travels.
Finally I made the background a space-void black and experimented changing the focal length and the amount of bloom on the stars. The animation was then exported as JPEG frames which I stitched together in Premiere Pro.
Below is my final animation. I am very pleased with how this came out considering it being my second time using Blender.
