FMP Introductory Lecture's

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

To give us all the vital information needed to begin the final major project a lecture was hoisted by Rebecca Waterworth. So that I had this information for future reference I took this list of notes.

  • 10 week project which allows you to demonstrate a body of independent work with a finished outcome.

  • Your work will illustrate your personal and conceptual journey through a range of media.

  • Assessment of research and problem solving as well as final outcome.

  • Development is a crucial part of the project.

  • Equivalent of an examination.

  • Deadline for self-written project proposal is Monday 21st March.

  • Include practice work in project proposal.

  • Friday 20th May is final deadline for all work produced over the 2-year course.

  • FMP takes up 50% of both year 1 & 2 grades.

  • Interim Major Project - 16%, A1 - 16%, B1 - 16%.

  • Graded in order from Pass, Merit, Distinction.

  • FMP should be based on something you're interested in that you can communicate to others.

  • Project Proposal - Title of project, aim, relation to other work, how are you going to achieve this, experimentation.

  • Research - Theories and ideas, Facts and figures, Objects and images.

  • 9 total work weeks, 1 setting up week, 3 weeks for Easter break, 45 studio days.

  • Time planning - Project proposal must include a timetable with key deadlines.

  • Timetable can be speculative and may change in practice.

  • Proposal draft due on Monday 7th March / 2nd draft due on Monday 14th March.

  • Project concept - Should link to some of your previous work, make it ambitious it achievable, do not state what your final outcome will be.

  • Research is vital in the early stages of the project, use your website and studio space to display your research.

  • Harvard referencing must be documented of your project proposal/Padlet.

In addition to this lecture I also attended another talk which was specifically catered to my creative media course. Below are the notes I took to help me plan for FMP.

  • Research, analysis, visual, written, reflective development, formal elements, specialism, production.

  • Viewpoints, surface, scale, space, colour, texture, composition.

  • 3D modelling - exploration of techniques.

  • Include trials and test pieces to show progression and development.

  • Document trees of ideas, annotate, critique, creative referencing.

  • Context can be around technical production.

  • When researching use - form, content, process, mood, context, show.

  • Trial and error, shoots, storyboards, experimentation.

  • Film and Photography -

  • Using green screen, projecting film onto objects, viewpoint, portraiture, digital manipulation, long shutter speed, mirrors.

  • Planning - Research, Photography, concept art/story boarding, visual effects piece, 3D modelling/printing.

  • Film Production - Props sourcing, costume sources, location research, cinematography.

  • Keep blog Padlet and portfolio up to date.

  • All digital files should be uploaded to shared OneDrive as a backup.
