Once I had a good idea of how to properly light my shot I began taking my final Photos that reflect the themes of isolation and solitude evident in my chosen painting. I am very pleased with how these five shots came out and I love the horror aesthetic they exhibit. The experimenting with shadows and lighting from my test shots gave me a much better idea of how to create simple but effective shots. With my chosen painting being "Corridor at the Asylum" by Vincent Van Gogh I really wanted to embrace the power of the mind and the feeling of entrapment.
To get the shot of the eye through the keyhole it involved shining a light onto my model's face with the camera lens on the other side of the door capturing the light reflecting off of her face. The photos involving the hands and arms are supposed to symbolise people trying to escape from there inner demons, similar to the struggles endured by Van Gogh with mental health problems. The last to photos were shot in a corner to represent isolation and the impact that an overactive mind has on a person. We managed to get the effect of a contorted person by the model putting on his jacket backwards, having his shoes in the opposite direction and stretching his arms backwards.
