Audio editing in Premere Pro Workshop

2008737

To improve my skills when working with sound I attended a workshop hosted by Penny; an IT technician at UCA. As I am training to be a VFX artist, sound is something that gets overlooked quite often however it is crucial to any visual display to add audio. Audio has such a big impact on the viewer that a slight change in pitch or melody could change a clip from a comedy to a horror.

Firstly, I imported a music clip from FreeSound.org and expanded my workspace so that I could see the changes in volume.

To experiment with changing the volume I found out that you could add keyframes to the audio clip and use the 'ease in/ease out' handles to make the sound flow.

Another technique I found out was that under the channel volume effect you can keyframe the decibels separately on the right to the left. This is particularly effective if you had headphones on as it would create a doppler effect.

Furthermore I learnt that the bypass tool can be used to time when an effect is added and removed. The id similar to key framing the opacity on an asset in After Effects.

Overall, this was a very helpful workshop which has allowed me to learn effective ways of audio editing that I can use in my future pieces.
