Artist Research - Pete Ulatan

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

The surreal works of graphic designer and photographer Pete Ulatan are reminiscent of the dreamlike depictions seen in Christopher Nolan's Inception. I plan on inspiring this memento project on Inception and Ulatan's work has the same mind-bending aesthetic. He chops up personally and publicly-sourced images in Photoshop and stitches them back together so that waves appear to be falling from the sky and otherwise mundane cityscapes are transformed into futuristic masterpieces.

I love his abstract representations of reality and how to looks as if the world is folding over like a page in a book. His diverse concepts and skills has allowed him to thrive in Photography, graphics design and visual effects. In addition to working with Photoshop, he uses After Effects to create video versions of his surreal landscapes.
