Maurits Cornelis Escher ,born in 1898, is a well-known graphic artist from the Netherlands.
Millions of people around the world admire his work, as seen by the numerous websites dedicated to him. Escher produced 448 lithographs, woodcuts, and wood engravings, as well as over 2000 drawings and sketches during his career.
During his life in Switzerland around WW2, he devoted a tremendous amount of time and effort to create 62 of the 137 symmetrical drawings that he will create throughout his life. He uses architecture, perspective, and impossible spaces in his work. Worldwide, people continue to be amazed and captivated by his work. We can see his keen observation of the world around us, as well as the expression of his personal vision, in his work. M.C. Escher demonstrates how surreal and intriguing reality may be.
M.C.Escher has been a prominent inspiration for my work and I would like to reference this further in the memento project. Using different photography techniques I want to achieve the same effect of a distorted world. I could do this by using force perspective and a fish eye lens.
