This first project has introduced me to Fusion 360; a product design platform. The first task I completed was creating a coin keyring with my initials embedded in it. This involved extruding a circle to make a cylinder which I then chamfered and filleted to make the base of the coin. After this I used the text and join tools to form my initials and the coin into the same body. Using the circle pattern tool, I cut out circular grooves in the coin to create a ridged detail. Once this was complete, I set the file to a certain format so that it could be 3D printed.
Beginning the lamp project, I used my previously learned skills to create a lamp base and light bulb using the extrude and revolve tools. I then put it in a render environment where I added a polished metal finish to the stand and an LED light to the bulb. Now that I had the base stand completed, I sketched six different lamp shade designs and then used the circle pattern tool to create six lamps with different lamp shades. To make the lamps look aesthetically pleasing I rendered each shade with different materials such as wood, glass and plastic.
With my six lamps completed I started work on a table. I gave the table a modern geometric shape and used the offset tool create an inlay in the middle. Then using the loft tool, I made four angled legs. When it came to rendering, I gave the table a red coloured glass inlay, a wooden border and polished aluminium legs. Finally, I imported all six of my lamps into the file and placed them on the table.
So that my table looked more realistic in my final renders I made decorated rooms to place it in. Using the 2-point rectangle tool I drew a floor for my table to sit on. I then extruded two sides of the floor up to create walls. After this I made a skirting board by using the circle and the rectangle tools. Furthermore, I created window frames by extruding parts of the wall forward and made a window by cutting through the wall with an ellipse shape. Once I was happy with the base aesthetic of my room, I made 12 total renders of four differently decorated rooms. To add an advertising effect to my four final renders, I used Adobe Spark to add filters and appropriate text.
With the lamp project completed I started work on The Hand-held Device Project. To get me thinking about ideas for a device I sketched different designs for a product that had to do a certain number of tasks. I did this by having to combine two objects, an action and a body part into one device. As well as this I made a list of pros and cons of different devices. As I worked in a group for this project the others and I produced several ideas and concept drawings of different devices. I then collated all our ideas and produced a PowerPoint which was presented to the rest of my class.
My group and I decided that the device that we wanted to make was a mobile teleporter. The first task we had to do was to produce a customer profile for our product. This was a sheet with the details of the most suitable customer for our device. With these details in mind, I completed a final design for our device that all members of my group were happy with. This design consisted of a levitating orb, with a holographic display, magnetic socket, spinning rings and a comfortable glove which it attaches to. So that we could work most efficiently my group and I allocated each of us to certain tasks. My tasks for this project were to model the device in Fusion 360, create renders of the device with suitable materials, make a fully working website about our company and device, create a PowerPoint presentation explaining my group's work, make a script to direct people for the presentation and finally upload all work made in this project to my personal WIX website.
To start I modelled the device in Fusion 360 using the loft tool to create details on the surface of the orb and the extrude tool to form a cylinder into the socket. So that our device was completed even faster, Zoe modelled the rings separately so that when I was done with the main part of the device, I could simply merge her work with mine. After making an orthographic projection of the device and establishing its size; I added textures to the different bodies and created five renders of it, showcasing different colour styles in each one. Now that I had completed the renders Zoe saved the device in a different format so that she could 3D print it.
While Yadav worked on the logo for our company and Zoe made the device, I started work on the company website. Using Wix I created a website layout that my group and I were satisfied with before adding some of our newly designed logos and tag lines. In addition to this we decided on the name Waypoint for our company and so that is what I named the website. After a few design changes on the front page including adding my five final renders, it was complete. The "About" page describes what the device does and its suitability, the "Design Development" page shows the process in which the device was created, and the "Device Details" page explains how the user wears the device/how it works. Once the Device was 3D printed and mounted onto the glove Yadav took some photos of him wearing it, which I uploaded to a new page called "Product". Furthermore, I added the promotional video for the device on the "Product" page. Finally, I added an advertising page displaying digital posters that Yadav had made on Illustrator.
Once the website was complete, I created a PowerPoint presentation explaining the process that my group and I went through when making the Waypoint company and the device. Subsequently, Zoe had completed the animated video ad and Yadav had done the user interface; I added their work to the PowerPoint. After we had completed all the work it was time to present it to the rest of my class on Blackboard. To make sure my group was prepared for the presentation I made a script explaining where each person speaks and directions for the PowerPoint.
Having completed both the lamp project and the device project; I can say that it was very successful, and I am very pleased with how all my work turned out.
